Metal Hammer magazine May 2017 Maiden galore & incoming KEMBARA cds aku baru memperolehi

Hi all.

Firstly.. WRATHCHILD?? WHY???? I will never understand Steve Harris and Bruce Dickinson mentality in choosing a setlist for PART TWO of their most successful album tour ever.
SURELY THIS IS THE MOST CRAZIEST SUCCESFUL ALBUM TOUR FOR A BAND WITH NO RADIO AIRPLAY OR MASS MEDIA EXPOSURE at a VERY MINIMUM.

2016 has simply an amazing well-balanced setlist for an album tour.

Antwerp Belgium two nights ago, and it was simply suspenseful following the news on the internet as each song is being played in Belgium for fans all over the world.

Great Unknown replacing Tears Of The Clown is amazing but basically swapping Wrathchild for Hallowed Be Thy Name is mind-boggling.

The only valid reason surely is the setlist is very difficult for Bruce as it is.

But still, never mind. Better Wratchild then no more Iron Maiden ever LOL!!

Maiden can just play Wratchchild 5 times in a row and say goodnight and I will still try to be there. LOL!!

Anyway, not many bands with such a long history, dare to play at least 6 new songs each night consuming up to 50 minutes of the stage time, and the audience are loving it and singing to the lyrics and "football chanting" all the melodies and instrumental sections.

A quick post as I require minimum time for thinking as I will be posting lots of snapshots.

I hope to have more time to talk cock soon.

My only intention in posting the below photos is I KNOW A LOT OF PEOPLE cannot get their hands on the Metal Hammer Magazine May 2017 issue.

Its a very excellent magazine issue for the still surviving Metal Hammer.

Lots of things for everyone,

-some nice articles on German Thrash bands inclusive live reviews.

-some X Japan even So this is really a very nice issue to purchase

-some of other bands that I am curious.

-some of other bands that I skipped completely the pages and photos as I have no interest.

-some very nice and interesting advertisements

and a little matter of SIX PAGES OF interview with Steve Harris.

and a little matter of a weird Top 50 Iron Maiden songs.

IT MAKES A GOOD READING, but for me, how is there to create a top 50 of Maiden songs?
On this magazine Top 50, even though it includes nominations and scores from the writers, the fans, other bands including Kirk Hammet,

but it cannot even fit in Dance Of Death? For The Greater Good Of God? LOL!!

Maybe a Top 100 Iron Maiden songs would be possible for me to try nominating a list.

So here it is, I only try to capture the Steve Harris interviews, and the Top 50 opinion of Metal Hammer staff and whoever they checked with.

Like I say, its just impossible to select a Top 50, although Metal Hammer May 2017 list done by their staff, other bands and whomever is certainly interesting with the write up for each song nomination,

Maybe a Top 100 may be realistically possibly to nominate top Maiden songs.

but, one glance and there is no Dance Of Death? A few songs from A Matter Of Life And Death..

There is no Einstein Intelligence of a Formula E = mc SQUARE and the description of  an Atom Bomb lyrics of Brighter Than a Thousand Suns? There is no STARBLIND.

THERE IS NO STAR"FUCKIN"BLIND. A genius of a song both musically, delivery and lyrically.

There is a lot of songs I like that is not there. LOL!!

SO a top 100 would be great.

Like I say, this makes a very good read and a good advertisement for Maiden. Thats all.

Sapa semua pun tak kuasa (III)..korang buat bodoh sua...haha.


So lets begin..Seriously...

1) Untuk yang tak pernah pergi, atau Untuk korang lain kali nak pergi Istana Budaya, tapi nak guna public transport/ pengangkutan awam, its not really that bad.
Naik LRT sampai Titiwangsa, keluar exit tempat tiket tu turun tangga kat pavement tu lepas tu belok kiri. Kalau korang malas nak jalan, korang jalan depan sikit nanti ada teksi stand gitu korang naik dalam 3RM aje. Dekat je pun..
Tapi masalahnya tu sana kira main road gitu... So kalau korang nak jalan kaki pun boleh je, bila korang keluar korang pusing kiri kan?, jalan kedepan sikit tu nanti korang nampak jalan ikut bawah dan ikut naik jambatan . Hah, so korang pilij ikut jambatan tu pasal ada walkway. Kalau korang jalan bawah, leceh la jalan semua besar2 kat simpang tu. Dah senang je...jalan gitu je..sampai dah IB. Depan IB seberang jalan pun those HKL and IJN nye facilities. Ada la pedestrian overhead bridge jugak kalau korang nak seberang ikut law.
Waktu dah nak lewat Malam, korang ada dua pilihan la, keluar IB masa persembahan belum abis untuk kejar pengangkutan awam terakhir (hah, ni Metallica aku buat, Sorry la, antara last train ngan Seek & Destroy mana lagi important? haha.) atau kalau terpaksa naik teksi je la. OK la situ main road teksi insyallah banyak.

2) Pembelian Tiket untuk persembahan di Istana Budaya pakai online tapi takde printer ke hapa ke. Macam aku, aku beli tiket2 ni semua main online je...
So aku tak kuasa la nak print out ke hapa ke email tu ke, kertas2 tu whatever... Ermm sebenarnya.. printer kat rumah rosak, nak pakai kat kerja?..., tak boleh access internet pun haha. Giler ah kena trace dorang dapat tahu aku guna komputer kerja masuk internet, mampos aku. So tak boleh la nak print tiket.
So.... korang kalau beli online kan, tak kesah la dari ticket2u.biz ke, ticketpro ke, actually ambik gambar je pakai handphone korang maklumat2 kat dalam "confirmation email" tu...
kan ada yang "Verification Code" ke hapa tu.. Nanti sebelum show start korang gi je IB nye box-office, nanti ada staff jaga.
Aku punye pun dorang tak mintak apa2 proof, aku keluarkan handphone, staff tu suruh aku baca code aku, dia key in keluar tiket dia kasi aku. Dah... Gitu2 je. Easy and Fast.

OK the show itself...

3) Perbezaan senarai lagu antara persembahan pertama di Singapura tahun lepas dan IB malam pertama yang aku pergi ni la hari Jumaat...
Singapore Show 30 March 2013 ada 23 lagu..
Istana Budaya KL Show 21 November 2014 ada 28 lagu.. dan...
total time main hari Jumaat kat IB ialah 2 JAM 45 MINIT. 
Lagu yang sama dua2 malam ini sebanyak 20 lagu (walaupun ada lagu yang arrangement dan improvisation banyak beza dah so memang seronok sangat la kalau buat perbandingan walaupun lagu yang sama dimainkan.).
Lagu kat Singapore yang tak main kat IB 21/11/2014 sebanyak tiga lagu ialah - Balada Osman Tikus, Lagu Untuk Seorang Ibu dan Tarian Hidup.
Lagu kat IB 21/11/2014 yang tak main kat Singapore sebanyak lapan lagu - Siapa Orang Kita, Sesat Di Kuala Lumpur, Kolar Biru, MALAM, Oh Bulan, Ayahku Angkasawan, Kupu-Kupu dan Kutu.



4) Vocals and instruments for the Friday night.
Kembara guys - 
A Ali on electric guitars all night
Zoul mostly electric guitars and sometimes accoustic
S Sahlan all night with accoustic guitar - and he does the stylish fancy foot work and roaming around the stage the whole night.
M Nasir – singing only
Md Shah – Keyboards
Rahman – Bassist
Guitar solos all songs, A Ali ngan Zoul share. Thorbaik x 2.

Aku ingat2 balik, aku realise dorang bukan sahaja tak tinggalkan stage, kecuali Zoul ngan A Ali tukar2 gitar karen je,
tapi dorang tak minum air pun... betul tak?? ke aku tak perasan?
Antara lagu Malam ngan lagi 3 atau 4 lagu je kan yang tiga Kembara Mark I je duduk kat stool, selain tu semua diri dan tak tinggalkan stage..

Seriously, salute dorang ok, salute dorang dua tangan kiri dan kanan, salute dorang pakai meriam2 AC/DC susun banyak2..

There is a percussionist by name of Romi I think, and he really get the loud cheers from the audience pasal dia main sambil joget2 stylo mylo nye.

Zoul – Bas No. 13 and Bunga Bakawali. SURPRISE!!!! Zoul did Bas No 13 instead of M Nasir.

5) MY observations..

Apa aku teringat aku type je la...
Intro dia aku suka, keluar dari bawah stage tu, cam Wings... Gimik yang menjadi la...
Ekpress Rakyat ni kira cam Highway Star dorang la eh....dorang suka pakai as intro pun, rancak kot.
A Ali once dah start berbual memang macam dia sendiri cakap, susah nak stop. Apa sey dia ngan M Nasir sempat borak2 lagik in between songs,
aku tahu la dorang borak2 tu pasal nak “intro” dan “co-relate” kan kat the next song, nanti macam dorang “teaser” gitu “bila waktu malam”, then emphasis the “Malam” so we know what song is next all that, tapi kecoh.. Siap cerita pasal “bini garang” and all that thingys..."cakap terang2 la , cakap sembunyik2 buat apa" thingys...
 kecoh sey A Ali ngan M Nasir...Anyway let me tell you MALAM was amazing! M Nasir gerek la kan bila nyanyi lagu2 slow gini....also Kiambang, Keroncong Untuk Ana and Kepada Mu Kekasih was delivered incredibly well and menikam kalbu, walaupun 3 lagu ni actually a bit meleleh.
M Nasir pun, sudah peng pergi kat bas no 12. Amacam tu? Haha. Masa dia dulu kan bas no. 13 kan lalu Orchard Road tu jam bas no 13 antara Ghim Moh gi Chai Chee kan? (Sekarang bas no 13 antara Yio Chu kang gi Marine Parade tapi still pass thru Geylang Serai dan Haig Road, actually aku still believe Bas No 13 is more about makan2 kat pusat penjaja Haig Road la), Tapi M Nasir kan dia sudah peng bas no 12 lalu kat rumah dia.So dia nak kena tukar no 12 gi 13 then baru sampai pasar Geylang gitu la dia cakap...
OK Sapa buat graphic2 kat belakang tu? Amacam Bas No 13 boleh ada Merlion tengah sembur air?  ooohh, did I mention Zoul did the singing for this song?
Masa M Nasir introduced dan cakap abis lagu Duit, dia bilang nanti ada duit jatuh dari siling...
AKU PERCAYA SIOTT!!! bukan percaya duit, tapi aku tak surprised kalau ada apa2 jatuh kan? Alaaa..omputeh nye konsert rock tak impossible ada benda2 gini pe...
So Aku ingat ok la bukan duit tapi aku ingat belon ke, bola beach ball Metallica yang besar2 tu ke nanti members Kembara tendang2 kat audience,kertas kecik2 confettti KISS selalu lepaskan tu... haha. ACAH je rupanya, takde apa jadi pun abis lagu... buang karen aku speku.
Siapa Orang Kita ending M Nasir start talk about hadirin yang datang so tak tengok Maharaja Lawak or something? Aku mana la tahu tv progrem, is it on Friday ada tv show Maharaja Lawak ke? Well....
Tapi most of the time the stage banters were interesting, pasal before lagu Sesat Di Kuala Lumpur, M Nasir cerita dulu KL masa Kembara first sampai sana was like high riser Cuma Daya Bumi je now different and either way they still sesat,
Seriously berbual, lagu ni touching giler dan serious berbual, kena la pasal dorang perform lagu ni pun kat Kuala Lumpur. One of the best moments la pada aku..Ayahku Angkasawan thingy, M Nasir says, they already write long before the present situation. Kolar Biru M Nasir mention bukan pekerja asing ye? PEKERJA he emphasis. Lagu ni intro ada those "Dio Angry Machine" ketang-ketung gitu haha.. Industrial la gitu kan...
Rupa tanpa wajah...M Nasir introduced as a Surialistik? Surrealistic Song.. Lepas tu cakap apa makna dia? Dia sendiri jawab Entah la..

Actually kalau pilih back to back songs terbaik, aku pilih Rupa Tanpa Wajah ending terus masuk lagu Bunga Bakawali. Siot je M Nasir bual pasal Cina suka tanam bunga ni kat flat-flat. HAHA. OK la aku nak pergi tengok la rumah2 Cina tanam pokok bunga...HAHA.. Siot je la. gelak aku.
Siap cakap ada hantu lagik.... Kecoh aku bilang ni show dorang berbual. The Kembangs Malams.
Bunga Bakawali is easily the HEAVY HEAVY ROCKER for the night. Best kan lagu ni, memang dorang seret, dah abis ending korus abis masuk gitar solo balik, then false ending masuk korus balik... THORBAIK. Seretttt lama2 pun ok aku suka lagu ni...
I love this song, and this is the best version ever!!!!.

Mungkin lagu terbaik malam tadi, lagu paling EPIC ialah lagu Nusantara. Lagu ni apa takde? Lagu joget, ada rap melayu, herannye audience boleh singalong macammana tu? hahaa...
Ending siap ada trumpet Mexico lagik!! Aku dah cakap Horns Section tu memang terbaik...
Errmmm lagu yang buat aku boring....Sekuntum Bunga Plastik. Aku kureng sikit lagu ni pasal lagu ni meleleh sangat untuk aku... Apa pun lots to see, anyway, aku was like lebih focus on the rest of the Kembara members than M Nasir, and was entertained tengok drummer tu, yang percussionist tu joget2, even the trumpet guys...

Di Perhentian Pudu Raya has this Tabla Karen intro haha...
HATI EMAS DAN GERHAHA. ni dua lagu of course - Full-scale Audience Participation. Hati Emas, Kembara biasa la SERETTTT.....
Gerhana dah campur horns section, dah SWING abis lagu ni... Sedap aku suka campur Horns tu..
dan jugak Perjuangan pun...ada Horns...


Kupu-Kupu is very the psychedelic la ye?? slow je....Sedap tapi aku tak paham...haha.... Apa pun KUTU korus terbaik la kan? haha.

Sepasang Mata, Impian Anak Jalanan, Impian Seorang Nelayan, Senandung Buruh Kasar, Perjuangan....   blockbuster after blockbuster la kan setlist Kembara gini macam...
Oooo Senandong Buruh Kasar aku prefer Singapore nye show pasal rougher sikit la.
Empat Penjuru also M Nasir and A Ali talked a bit... Khafilah is a surprise Encore really. A Ali did say to check with the musicians before they decide to play an encore.
Macam2 style lagu la kan? Keroncong, pop, rock, balada, joget, lagu koboi western, lagu tabla karen, tapi Oh Bulan seems like a very nice Asli sounding song...  Sedap sey...  Aku suka sangat Kembara bawak lagu ni..

A short "gezek" review of Kembara at Istana Budaya last night...(edited 1:20pm)

A short review of Kembara at Istana Budaya last night before my usual long disrespectful "ulasan merapek meraban" posting I will do the next few days if possible.

I have been fortunate to see some really awesome live shows this year in Malaysia, Singapore, and backpacking to HELLFEST 2014 in Clisson France, La Bataclan Paris and Belgrade.

THIS COULD POSSIBLY THE BEST LIVE PERFORMANCE I HAVE SEEN THIS YEAR and a nice audience too..

Worth all the last minute rush, the LRT rush, ohhh please build an MRT station near Istana Budaya doorstep..

Penat wei nak menapak...dah la jalan semua lebar2 petang2 kenderaan banyak...

Tapi of course la korang naik teksi dari LRT cuma 3-4RM je...

Balik cekik darah sikit LOL!!!!..

Never mind like I say lets speak in the 300 movie style " THIS IS KEMBARA!!!!".. so its worth it all the berpeluh berpeleh.

Its reminiscent of 2011 really, I got to see Iron Maiden four times that year, but I really still think my favourite from 2011 was the Kumpulan Lovehunters final concert at Esplanade.

Band Melayu jugak......kan???

Kembara's show last night was much more fantastic than the Singapore's one last year.

Kembara played for about 2hrs and 45mins NON STOP. They did not leave the stage at all. Did they? Come to think of it, did I see them have a drink or something? I dont think so...

28 songs..  A much altered setlist arrangement compared to the Singapore show. 

THE HORNS Section was brilliant.
Great guitars and solos by both A Ali and Zoul.
Superb singing by S Sahlan, A Ali, Zoul and M Nasir.
The bass was alive.
S Sahlan was roaming everywhere and with fancy steps.
Rupa Tanpa Wajah and Bunga Bakawali back to back - Simply Awesome.
and more..

I believe the Mark I and Mark II Kembara line up present were - M Nasir/A Ali/S Sahlan/ the bassist Rahman/ Zoul/ and the keyboardist Md Shah. Ujang Exist I believe was on drums.

I wonder was there many tapers last night? Please share... If not.... my humble inferior version....  coming soon....

It would be nice if one day kita orang melayu pergi konsert rock ke hapa ke kita boleh buat style omputeh nye metal fans, tiap2 shows, bootlegs semua keluar banyak2 then boleh label version 1, 2, and 3 and so... on...

Then takde yang superior or inferior really.... its just for fans to keep as keepsake really...

Musim raya puasa tahun ni, aku tahu dahbis pun, tapi boleh kira meriah ngan lagu2 melayu baru yang kira boleh masuk la kat telinga aku, baik dari band atau solo.
Aku masih ingat tahun bila dah lama dah, Malex punya second album yang cam EP tu dorang jual sendiri kat Geylang Serai time bulan puasa tahun bila ntah.

Tu hari borak pasal Kraton, metal gitu, so kali ni borak pasal Kembara nye band member Zoul (who is also M Nasir brother) punye solo album.

So.... some quickie things I want to say.
- 11 lagu kat album Zoul - Salam Cinta ni..
- Hidup Segan Mati Tak Mahu ada dua version, album dan radio edit. Ni lagu guitar solos one after another.
- album ni majoriti lagu dan senikata liriks ni Zoul tulis.
- Semua guitars kat setiap lagu pun Zoul tak salah aku kecuali cuma Malex dan Talib main kat lagu Hidup Segan.. tu.

- Artis jemputan such as Olynn Saleh, tak familiar la aku kat female singer ni tapi aku dengar satu brader cakap dia popular kat radio and tv. ok.
- Art Fazil ada, Hamid Black Dog Bone main majoriti bass ni album and lets wish him all the best after whats been happening, Hanafie Warren Unwanted ada, Malex ada, members Al Jawaher pun ada, aku tengok kat credits list tu ada Gendang Sunda percussions being used, etc etc

- Seberang Sana mula2 aku ingat lagu pasal negara jiran ke hapa ke, sekali dengar, tengok lirik, ooo very deep. Reflective song. Seberang Sana mungkin akhirat kot?

- lagu Selekoh nyanyian Zoul dan Art Fadzil. Rausyanfikirish. "Had laju di hadapan hanya 50, yang kau pergi pecut siapa yang suruh? salah pandang terkena tiang, salah belok termasuk longkang..." Best.
- Di Balik Tabir Cinta. Ni lagu Zoul duet ngan Olyn. Sedap lagu ni. Aku suka. Kalau aku dj radio, aku akan mainkan lagu ni.
- Aku Masih Disini dan Damai, so far ni dua lagu aku dengar2 gitu je.

- SITI PAYUNG. Best Giler lagu ni. Aku double cek, konfemkan ni lagu baru, lagu nyanyi lenggok tradisional melayu, lirik pun very melayu traditional, tapi backing vocal melodies dah macam Def Leppard nye harmonies gitu. Ni lagu Hanafie Warren ada, dan kredit taruk vokal latar dua members Al Jawaher.
- Selingan Bicara 6 Tali Besi is accoustic. Aku rasa Zoul by himself aje ni lagu. Sedap.
- Lagu nombor 10 ialah instrumental - Magrib Di Khatulistiwa.
Serious aku fikir, aku fikir dan cuba ingat, cam sapa eh intro lagu ni..
Aku fikir dan fikir, ok korang pernah dengar Dokken "One Night Only" yang dorang main cam duduk 4 orang sebaris gitu, Mick Brown main hand held percussions gitu? Hah!! Ni George Lynch!! haha. Ye la Zoul bukan George Lynch atau tiru George Lynch tapi....tu je la masa Magrib di Khatulistiwa ni start je, otak aku teringat Dokken George Lynch kat live album Dokken tu.

ok dah... aku tangkap ni cd kat kedai Muzika Joo Chiat Complex.
Tak tahu la pulak kat pasaran Malaysia masuk tak album ni, kalau tak masuk, well....

Long live Lagu Melayu yang best dan sentiasa baru dan baru. Lagu lama gerek dan dihargai, tapi asyik borak pasal lagu lama je, kejong la, kira living on past glories je tanpa usaha baru, buat hapa dok.. 
Malays have been making progress in all fields, cam Judas Priest cakap "Onwards We Catapult!!" which summarise many things in life.. Lets support them in all fields, especially when these "orang karyawan, orang seni" come out with these quality stuffs.


next, if I got the time, lets talk about the new one from maman (teacher's pet)

Maman & Zoul new solo albums..

These are two latest solo albums by Singapore Malay musicians which deserve applause and support for their overall qualities. I give it a little play and both sounds impressive and dynamic. Will talk more on them next time.

Whether the songs on these albums are popular among the Malay-language music listeners community? I wont know, cause I dont listen to the Malay-language radio stations.
But typically rock fans buy albums based on the strength of all the songs and to support the artist or band itself, not download some pop single from the cutie flavour of the month.

So two solo albums that just recently came out from members of two different bands.

Maman from Teacher's Pet and Zoul from Kembara. Two big bands from Singapore in their own right which has a lot of support among listeners in Singapore, Malaysia and where there are Malay communities I guess.

Brief flipping thru of the cds,
- Maman's D'zkir Alam cd is a bit spiritual from the way I look at it. Fabulous artwork cover.
- Zoul's Salam Cinta cd, well....I had listened to half of it yesterday, and it was a blast... names like Malex, Art Fadzil, Hamid BDB (which I am not sure many of you are aware of his condition), Hanafie Warren, even members of Al-Jawaher among others, and I think there is a well-know lady singer which I am not familiar are all featured in this album. I had always love Malex, got the 3 cds from his band haha...

ekspres rakyat by kembara 30/03/2013

Kerja shift pusing2 ni, bila orang tidur, kita kerja, bila orang hari ahad atau public holiday rehat, kita kerja, tapi bila orang kerja, kita relaks je kan lepak dan horray2 dan jugak buat macam2 aktiviti pada hari weekday. Nak tunggu weekends off, ada tapi tak selalu la kan. Apa pun, kerja je la betul tak? Mana nak cerewet. Janji carik rezeki halal.
So kalau nak sesuaikan masa dan jadual ngan program kebanyakkan orang, kena plan awal2, nak MX tukar duty ke, nak ambik cuti ke, apa je la.
Salah satu masalah kerja shift ni kalau korang tanya sapa2 pun jugak, kalo nak gi tengok benda2 cam gini...ada tiket pun, ntah gi ntah tidak.

Bila Kembara ( lineup II ) announce dorang nye show 30 March 2013 ni, Deep Purple, Robert Plant, Journey... semua aku tolak tepi dulu.
Walau mungkin ni kali terakhir tengok Deep Purple main live, tapi... ni Kembara beb.

Mesti ada yang kanchong terus gi beli tiket tapi aku tak terkejut pasal aku pun sama, susah nak predict respon peminat kadang2,... Esplanade Concert Hall memang gerek dan comfortable la tempat dia, walau all seater, harga tiket pun alrite ni show paling mahal is about $75, ok kalau cam Anuar Zain ke, Shiela Majid ke, even Sweet Charity main tempat ni full house ok la kan,  tapi yang Lovehunters final show tu full house dulu, unsangkarable kan? so better buy earlier if you had decided to go and got the budget.

So I hope to go... Some songs I kind of expect them to play - Hati Emas, Duit Duit, Express Rakyat, Bas Nombor 13 ( ni show main kat Singapore so kira confirm song la kot haha ), Gerhana, Malam, Keroncong Untuk Ana, Ada Sepasang Mata????, Kiambang, Kepada mu Kekasih..etc etc etc

Errrmmmmm too many slow songs?.... haha.

ok ok.. please please also play some of my favourites like - Empat Penjuru, Bunga Bakawali, dan Di Perhentian Puduraya cewahhh.
Ye la, aku sejak bas selatan pindah TBS dah tak gi Puduraya lagi pe. Walau aku rasa ada bas sekian2 waktu yang masih ambik orang kat puduraya sebelum officially gi TBS ambik penumpang. Bila naik je dah ramai, bila naik je dah ramai.

I really hope what the newspaper says is true, they are trying to get S Shahlan and A Ali to join in. That would be awesome.
