This is Your Life (Japanese Version Pressing) - A Tribute to Ronnie James Dio

WARNING with all the passion that I sometimes spew on this blog - This is going to be a long post with lots of photos from the very pretty Japanese-pressing version of the Ronnie James Dio Tribute called This Is Your Life which is arranged by Wendy Dio. 
The Japanese version comes on obi-wrapped at the corner digipak with a booklet that is different as has extra info on the two extra bands (how can I resist Dio Disciple's contribution for the Japanese version) and also another extra booklet written in Japanese plus lyrics in English. Its very nice packaging.
I am very very very excited and really cannot wait for this album release.
 I really adore Ronnie James Dio, its like his voice is in ears my whole life... to see him sings live is an amazing experience, I still got shivers of the memory of him singing "Falling Off The Edge Of The World".  It so bleedingly touching..

 I'm the Man On The Mountain, The Man On The Silver Mountain.

Whether whole bands or individual members of Scorpions, Rainbow, Dio, Motorhead, Deep Purple, Judas Priest, Whitesnake etc etc, taking part is already amazing in this tribute but when Metallica is reported to be taking part in this tribute, I think the status of this tribute cd change into World News as Metallica is such a huge attraction world wide.

I have never been so excited about anything Metallica for many years. But when they say they got a problem even choosing a song from Rainbow Rising (which I think is one of my favourite all time albums, and maybe one of the most influential heavy rock and metal album till now) and they decide to choose a four songs medley of KILL THE KING (Kill The King was a little late during Rising studio recordings so that's why it end up on "LLRNR" album but its already played as the opening song during Rising Tour) /TAROT WOMAN/ STARGAZER/ LIGHT IN THE BLACK, I was so happy. 
I was never this happy with regards to Metallica since.... LOL!! maybe Bleeding Me S&M version LOL!! Its almost UNBELIEVABLE Metallica is going to play this four songs as a Medley on a Ronnie James Dio tribute album. OK enough about Metallica participation now let me hear each song and talk cock about it... 

Intro (some Tony Carey please.. LOL!!)

Ronnie James Dio voice whether for Rainbow, or Black Sabbath, or DIO is the soundtrack of my whole life, since I was a little ignorant vilage boy,  So I am very excited on this release with some of the big names of music.

My only wish was if RITCHIE BLACKMORE for once, just for once, throwing aside all feelings or whatever... do or play or contribute something too.
In addition, I think this is not only a tribute to Ronnie James Dio, but also to those humongous names in music like Ritchie Blackmore, Cozy Powell, Toni Iommi etc etc..

So on the above three photos, you have notes, stories, reflections on Ronnie and also this tribute cd written by Malcome Dome, Koh Sakai, Eddie Trunk, by musicians who participate in this tribute and also Japanese pressing booklet has the extra notes by Tim Ripper Owens on Dio Disciples participation.



ok lets begin to the songs that colours my whole life!!! I am listening to each song and then just write it on this blog...

1. Neon Knights - ANTHRAX. Joey Belladonna is simply fabulous. Love to see him play drums on YouTube with his own band playing clubs doing covers. I think at Ronnie's memorial service he sang Man On The Silver Mountain??
I hope one day Joey Belladonna will personally record a full album of Tribute To Journey. He is the best singer Journey never have. Neal Schon should have chosen Joey Belladonna to replace Steve Perry in Journey. 
2. Last In Line - TENACIOUS D. A heart-rendering start by Jack Black. IS THAT A RECORDER SOLO?!!. Very Rainbow Eyes'ish. I wish Jack Black had followed Ronnie Dio live version style last verse of "we may never!never!never!never!never!never!never!never! come home!!".. 
3. The Mob Rules - ADRENALINE MOB. Over the top. Well..my opinion anyway..
4. Rainbow In The Dark - COREY TAYLOR. Do I contradict myself if I say I like to see Stone Sour on YouTube but when I was at Donington Park and on the first night Slipknot was playing the main stage headlining First Day of Download Festival 2013,  and I decide to exit, go back to my lodge place to eat and sleep because I find them live B.O.R.I.N.G, Sorry..., anyway nice version this one.
5. Straight Through The Heart - HALESTORM. Rocking female voice!!. Love this version. OK, I got to take note to surf the YouTube and check out this Halestorm band more. "RELEASE THE HOUNDS!!!" I really love this version on second listen now!!
6. Starstruck - MOTORHEAD with SAXON'S BIFF BYFORD. Of course a 100% like for this version.
7. Temple Of The King - SCORPIONS. I am so scared to listen to this version. As a small village boy, before I discovered this techno trance breakdancers group called Iron Maiden, it was the Scorpions and Rainbow which were my dosage of introduction to the wonderful magical world of music.
So I was listening to this and I was like just gazing away... Scorpions performing Temple Of The King... WHO COULD HAVE IMAGINE THAT???

8. Egypt (The Chains Are On) - DORO. Why oh Why?? I love this Doro version but its a very old cover version!!. Ok maybe not many people have heard of this song thru all these years but Doro should still sing a new song. I would like to listen to Naked In The Rain by Doro version! Now imagine that!!
9. Holy Diver - KILLSWITCH ENGAGE - Another old one released a few years back. Its nice to re-listen to this version.
10. Catch The Rainbow - GLENN HUGHES, craig goldy, rudy sarzo, scott warren, simon wright (basically lineup of Dio Disciples band). Its so Romantic!! This song has always been so Romantic. Even when OPETH plays this song live, and I watch it on YouTube for me its still so romantic LOL!!!
Anyway, the start of this song, its the intro of As Long As Its Not About Love from Magica. Craig Goldy's album anyway.
11. I - JIMMY BAIN/ROWAN ROBERTSON/Oni Logan/Brian Tich - Jimmy Bain plays with RJD in Rainbow and Dio, Rowan Robertson is introduced in Locked Up The Wolves. This is one of my most favourite songs on this tribute cd on the first listen.

12. Man On The Silver Mountain - ROB HALFORD/doug aldrich,vinny appice, jeff pilson, scott warren  - TOTAL HAPPINESS! I am smiling from ear to ear. Exciting!! the way this song was meant to be.
13. Rising Medley (A Light In The Black/ Tarot Woman/ Stargazer/ Kill The King) - METALLICA. NINE-MINUTES-OF-HEAVY-METAL-HEAVEN!!!. Oh My Goodness, its beyond my expectation!! Everything is so perfect, LOL!!! This is James best singing since ...AJFA!!! "oohh I see his face!!" haha, James will never be Ronnie but he is still damn marvellous here! hahaha.... Is there a video for this recording...?? OOHHH!!! Kill The King is ROCKING!!!! This is the Metallica that I so love last time!! Fuck I am typing this as I am listening, and now they revert back to Light In The Black... SURPRISE!!! AWESOME!!!!!!!! and ooohhh what a dramatic Kill The King ending!! What a full of twist medley!!

Ok, I don't really follow Metallica's current developments, yes just saw them last year though left before Seek And Destroy so there is still public transport LOL!!, and yes like some of you am also eagerly waiting for the coming Helsinki show bootleg just for the historic Frayed End Of Sanity request, but listening to this... I am so happy. Listening to this Medley, I got to say I love Lars, James, Kirk and even Rick?Rob?? or John or something?? the bassist HAHAHA. I am so happy!! ok listen to it one more time....WOOHOOO!!!
14. This Is Your Life - \m/   \m/ - I dont really understand the 90s trendy industrial revolution of Angry Machine album LOL!!!, even till now. But this is the last song on that album. Ronnie and just a piano. This is a very sad song. A very poignant song. Yes, if my wishes, if my dreams have been an eagle, how would I fly?? Fuck I had surely fly to outer space with the wishes and dreams I had!! LOL!!. Never mind, I am still happy with my shares in life. I am a Muslim, I believe in what God has for me,  and this is my life... though I just got to keep on trying my best to catapult onwards and onwards and onwards!! and let it be Magical....!!!
15. Heaven And Hell - STRYPER - The most holy heaven and unholy hell choices for both band and song LOL!!! A nice cover..
16. Stand Up And Shout - DIO DISCIPLES - Craig Goldy is in and out of Dio thru the years so its nice to listen to him with Dio Disciples with Dio's final line-up plus some well-known singers.

OK end of the album, and back to the real world LOL!.
I have completed listening, this album will be on my portable music player for quite some time to accompany me while walking and taking public transport.

ALL IN ALL, this is very very very nice tribute album. I really really love it.

p.s - Maybe one day I will take a photo of the collection of CDs that I have which are Tributes to Rainbow/Dio. The Germans and Japanese ones are so amazing... 
oohh and they dare to perform Rainbow Eyes these Germans and Japanese rockers!! LOL!! But I really like the voice of the speed-up Ritchie Blackmore's wife singing this song on one of Blackmore's Night album too although she will never ever be as good as Ronnie James Dio version. 
Its so bitter sweet song...a heartbreaking song that fits Ronnie's voice completely... ok I will stop now.

how did I buy my Hellfest 2014 tickets and the grumpiness that comes with it.

I bought the festival 3 days pass, (at the bottom of this post I had type "how I bought my Hellfest ticket online" which can be distorting, and I was like kind of want to give up myself after trying the first few times to buy a ticket.
Its a E-Ticket and you need to print it out and its the barcode that allows you in. your name is found on this ticket too.

Anyway, Still long way to go, 7 months from now, anything and I mean ANYTHING can happened.
But if I am really able to make it to Clisson on 20th June 2014 I would be very thrilled.
- The gossips and rumours the past month were true.
- Iron Maiden is the main PULL for me and I will go thru hardship and sacrifices to see them play while I still got the chance now,
- At least 20 other bands in the list is a grand supreme awesome bonus for me, though there will be clashes I had on my previous blog post, enlarged and bold the fonts of bands I want to see.
- The majority of the other bands gives me a chance to discover great or good things about them, if I bother and not be lazy or worse still sleeping somewhere or sightseeing the nearby areas and only bothering to turn up late evening.
- and a few in number, some of them famous bands, I dont bother and I guess I will never will.
- Unfortunately those bands that play too early in the afternoon, sorry to myself, I will still be somewhere out there, being a traveller and taking photos of street scenes and discovering things about Nantes and Clisson as realistically I wont be back there again.

One of the poster has Maiden's logo above Black Sabbath. Its of course a no-brainer for me personally,

before i forget. TRY IMAGINE AEROSMITH PLAYING their love song sentimental hits "I DONT WANT TO MISS A THING" SONG AT HELLFEST.
Now, that is what will be awesome and mind-boggling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

continue about the each day headlining only poster, but still weird to see that. Black Sabbath is so much more superior in terms of commercial mass-appeal and attracting the mass-media , one of the reason is due to the Osbournes family CIRCUS.
I was lucky that the two times different eras and lineup of  Black Sabbath came to Singapore I had got a chance to see them play.
Thanks to my friend (dont know where he is now after many years), who won a contest on the radio or something, I got a chance at very very close view, to see the Forbidden/Headless Cross era. Though I remember I was a bit down that the drummer on stage was not Cozy Powell, (in fact it was Bobby Rodenelli - who just like in Sabbath, had replaced Cozy's position in Rainbow)
and one of my memories of those carefree young dayswas Toni Iommi standing a few metres from me, and they were playing Children Of The Grave and I was like having a lock-jaw moment staring at the magnificient sight of Iommi with THAT song riffs. I remember I blog maybe last year, recalling the time frightened about my ears suffering from severe tinnitus after that show. The other time I saw Sabbath is the one with the superior singer when Black Sabbath returns using the Heaven And Hell moniker.
So it would be nice to see finally Ozzy Osbourne fronting Black Sabbath with Geezer Butler and Toni Iommi. For me just like Metallica, Sabbath is now a three man band. I dont bother about their current fourth person. Iommi and Butler should have vote for Vinnie Appice if Bill Wards is not playing.

The other rock bands and metal bands, some of them I had seen before, and how many times have I seen Deep Purple but still so entertaining even at their current ages, would be nice to see.
I read a bit done a bit of research, and confirming Hellfest Mainstage 1 and 2 is side by side. Good news then.
So it means, when a band from mainstage 1 is playing, there wont be a band from stage 2 playing, only set-up. Thats nice, so I guess I will move around a bit to get a better view, except on day one Maiden where I will be trying to get a good spot an hour or two in advance, so I guess I will only hear Slayer, not see them with the current drummer. Seen 4/4 Slayer, and seen 3/4 Slayer, I was present in the crowd in 2011 if I am not mistaken on the very very first time Gary Holt and not Hannemahn was on stage, so the current lineup is something new to me.
(I remember Soundwave Brisbane 2011 where Dimmu Borgir was playing and a Mexican metal band or something was setting up and soundchecking and there was serious leakage obvious on the slower Dimmu Borgir moments. And some Dimmu Borgir fans throw bottles and stuffs on the other stage.)

I also read and surf the internet and found that The Temple and The Altar are sort of stages 3 and 4, and are in the same what will seems a huge tent?
I guess so. I think they are side by side so again no clashes between these two, but most horrendous they will still clash with stage 1 and 2. Seems the Temple and the Altar are more dedicated to the so-called black metal and death metal bands? or something like that? though some major ones will still be at the main stages, but whatever it is, as long as its a good band playing songs and music that I enjoy hearing, I dont care what kind of music genre they want to called themselves.

I have been checking out some bands attracting huge crowds on the Warzone stage footages on youtube, my reaction was "ok, I will be staying clear from everything" hahaha. But at least one or two bands that I want to see are playing on this stage, so I will politely stand somewhere safe to check them out live haha.

if you see MAIDEN had one slot below it not yet taken, OOO please let it be Alice In Chains as rumours go playing just before Maiden, so I would enjoy the time I will be standing there from early on.

OK ENOUGH OF BULLSHIT, YES I HAVE NEVER BEEN THERE, BUT SHARING WHAT I DISCOVERED DOING SOME RESEARCH. MAYBE YOU WILL FIND IT INFORMATIVE AND BENEFICIAL TOO.

ok transport, most will be camping at the camp sites. I dont think I want to camp.
Another choice that may be the one I will opt for is to travel from Nantes daily. This will be tough. Donington Park Download Festival was not much hassle to travel back to one of the nearest city Derby.
I think Nantes will be a bit tougher. There will be shuttles to and from Nantes, but seems from my reading on the internet, it will be tough and competitive especially when huge crowds are attending to head the same direction.
Remember this is France. So majority of the informations and discussions are in French. As Alien As It Possibly Can For Me. Fortunately, a lot of English speaking fans do attend Hellfest from all over Europe so you can go some disccusion forums on the internet where they discuss about travelling to Hellfest in English language.

Now something I had confirmed done - BUYING myself A HELLFEST TICKET online from a .fr webpage which is in French.. 
This is from me who's severely pathetic understanding of French is bonjour, and had come across viva la France,  and VaVaVroom Theiry Henry and of course bootlegs of Maiden playing France when Bruce Dickinson speak to the audience in French , "nouveor album", ok I know that stands for new album. I always love to hear Arsene Wenger speaks though, with his French accent, ooo and the lady from Mind Your Language, the French lady haha. 

So I go to the official website, I choose buying of tickets which is still clearly understood. I choose the UNION JACK FLAG at the top right hand corner for the page to turn to English, though I still panicked when some words in the text still retained in French haha.

Then I choose 3 days pass, I think you still cant choose one day pass yet.
Then they will ask you for a handphone number, a mobile number.
Dont worry dont panic. I had thought I must have a smartphone with a internet data connection ready, but its just for "username" purpose.
I put a Singapore mobile number beginining with "9xxxxxxx" and it accepts fine.
Dont need to put a country prefix in front, because anyway, they will ask for your country next.
Unless you put a random number and it match a number from the country you choose from.
So if you try with numbers beginning from 012/014/016 or want to put a +60 or +65 in front and its not succesful, just play the numbers in front around a bit.

Then it will be easy, although I see a paypal icon, but the option did not turn up during payment, then they will ask for your email account to confirm the purchase.
Once your payment gets through, you will come to page where you can print out your ticket, with a few choices of PDF, JPEG or I believe Mobile number download.
So all you need to do is press print.
If you do not have a printer, just save the PDF or JPEG of the file into your thumbdrive or computer and print it next time you can get a printer.
Anyway, since your mobile number is registered as sort of username, so you can always log in again to Hellfest website next time to check your details or get your tickets printed from there again if you have not printed it out earlier, or had bother to save the tickets details that need to be printed out on your computer earlier.
The ticket must be printed out and present it there. I think this is whats is called E-TICKET.

Seeing Maiden playing their self indoor stadiums/arena shows in Australia or headlining Soundwave Festival, the tickets purchased are HARD-COPY. So you have the worries of the tickets lost during delivery to you, or you have to go the box-office to collect it when you are there, or get someone to buy it for you and post to you.
Seeing Maiden in Germany is the best. The ticket is HARD COPY. But its immediately posted to you with courier ASAP, within a few days. So thats the best, you got the Maiden tickets for GERMANY six months in advance in your hands, so it gives you confidence to make efforts to begin planing your backpack travel on a tiny string budget.

Buying the tickets for Seeing Maiden headlining Donington Park Download Festival with some other awesome bands and Bon Jovi playing the huge full Villa Park Stadium for near 3 hours, is stressful. I purchased online the tickets from the official websites about 6-7 months before and the HARD COPY ticket was only posted and arrive to me just a few days before I take my flight.
This is stressful because, yes, there is a guideline and instruction that if you are from a foreign land, and you did not recieve the ticket, you can go to the box-office when you arrive there, but I dont like it, its going to be a lot of panicking, and stress. I rather have a physical HARD COPY of ticket with me, 6-7 months in advance before I plan anything as its costly to do these travels just to see Maiden and other bands play in different countries, different places, with lots of different style of people, yet all sharing the same passion.

This Hellfest ticket is the best, I have got the ticket, I had printed it out. So I have much more confidence, though there are always problems that can happen, for example your barcode is rejected? I hope not.
Anyway, FAILING TO PLAN IS PLANNING TO FAIL. 
- Its fate if I will be there or not there, but I will try my best. 
If I do go, experience it, and come back safely, I will be happy, 
if I cannot go, then just too bad, I'll keep the ticket as a memory of what could have been, and maybe try again next time.

Maiden and all these bands in Hellfest, are just my passion, a part of me which remains young,  always be a primary school boy listening to Iron Maiden for the first time.
And I was a kampung boy (village boy) and there was nothing then, and I really believe it when I was told lies that Iron Maiden is just two boys and two girls singing group, just like ABBA.

Anyway, I am a bit panicking on travelling across France from Paris CDG airport to Hellfest which nearest city is Nantes.
I googled a bit and I got confused badly haha....French language...luckily its in alphabets still haha.

ok its time to visit the library, borrow and reborrow and re-borrow the "how to speak french, french english translator book".

Baju dan Bendera hari ini dalam sejarah

Aku tengah kemas2 sikit, maklum hari sabtu ni raya (ahahahahaha!!) , sorry lawak bodoh..

abis aku terjumpa balik baju ni, so tarikh peristiwa hari ni dalam sejarah pun dekat2, so layan la aku bebual kons ok.

 

Pada aku Pengsi la walaupun dah lusuh, tu pasal aku tunjuk. Pecah2 dah, bukan nye proper material pun, saje je.

Tu jam Megadeth pertama kali nak main kat Singapura, wahhh semangat sey...
semangat ngiap sayot, taming sari, jembatan besi gunung ledang, hati nyamuk tujuh dulang semua dah meresap satu badan dah..,

maklum tu jam aku dah start dengar Megadeth balik, dah start suka Megadeth semula, pasal aku suka album "system has failed"setelah lalui zaman kehampaan,
tapi tu jam pun Dave Mustaine baru pulih dari lumpuh kan jari2 kiri dia, urat saraf dia masalah, dia cakap pasal dia main gitar kan, tapi korang semua bebaik, ni boleh kena kat sapa2 tak yah main gitar pun, korang terketuk kat siku , ada terhentak antara bahu dan leher tu pun jari2 korang boleh lumpuh jugak...

Tapi kan, siksa la, kena gi theraphy lama ulang2, siap lalukan elektrik karen (current) untuk hidupkan dan stimulate urat2 saraf yang rosak tu..sebijik cam katak dah mati, kita lalukan karen dia lompat2 kan? hah cam gitu la, macam cerita Frankenstein gitu, ..Aku tahu pasal aku dah kena...siksa tu jam, Allah je tahu perasaan. Memang rasa takut tak yah cakap la, tu jam lepas makan angkat pinggan pun pinggan jatuh....tak seram?
Tapi insyallah boleh recover as per normal , bila wayar urat saraf semua recover kot dalam tangan kita..
Nanti la lain kali, kalau berkesesuaian aku cerita... (cehhhhhhhh berkesesuaian sey melayu aku).

Balik pada baju ni, aku kan dah warning, aku berbual kons ni post,
Siap pergi PERTAMA COMPLEX sey... buat baju ni on the spot semua pakaliao.
Kawan aku pun semangat, tapi dia buat kat PENINSULA shopping center.
Boleh? Plan sama2 buat tshirt nak meraikan kedatangan Megadeth, tapi satu gi Pertama kat KL, satu gi Penin kat Singapore haha buat lain2 hal masing2, kira dalam hati lantak kau la! janji baju aku siap.. haah.. Selenger sey dua2 tak pakat bermuafakat.

OK so buat la...bukan nye pakai pun, saje je s.s - syok sendiri  ...semangat gitu. Last2 buat datok dalam almari.

Nanti la, satu hari nanti, kalau aku nak mula semula nak minat betul2 bukan minat posseur untuk "Megadeth baru" ni balik, (ahahahahaa!!), lain kali dorang main kat Singapore atau Malaysia aku buat lagi satu baju baru cam gini...
Nak pakai material betul2 sikit....Baru cun.

Tu hari second time dorang datang pun tak gi....Tu jam nak raya puasa, giler!!
Bulan puasa lagi!! apa la korang!!..cehhhhhhhhhhhhh... cam real aku.
Padahal SLAYER main expo ,
sapa bukak puasa makan Burger King expo???

Anyway, memang dahsyat Megadeth, tu jam bulan mengambang...maklum Fort Canning Taman Larangan dorang main.
Aku tahu dorang main extra song , ada nasik tambah dari Thailand kan dan show Asia lain tak salah, dan malam tu Dave Mustaine bual kons banyak, pasal tu jam kawasan rumah dia tengah terbakar ,
California punya hutan rimba semua kan terbakar besar besaran kawasan nye tu jam, rumah si Dave Mustaine kat situ la. Tapi rasa rumah dia selamat kot?
Kalau tak mesti dah masuk Blabbemouth. cewah.

Paling best giler kan? Main She-Wolf kat taman2 gelap pokok2 malam2 ngan bulan mengambang. Best giler!!!

Korang bayangkan kalau Dave Mustaine nampak Pontianak malam tu, terus dia nyanyi lagu Enjet Enjet Semut.

Aku pun tunggu je Dave Mustaine start main Lady Of The Valley ke, When The Children Cry ke, ahaha...
tengok la bassist Dave Mustaine pakai sapa siot zaman tu...hebat si Lomenzo tu atas pentas. ..sukaaaa aku tengok.

Pehhhh......tak yah cakap la Ronnie James Dio, Toni Iommi, Geezer Butler, Vinnie Appice pukul abis la..... Monsters abis la dorang. macam takde benda langsung dorang 4 ni terngangah mulut aku. HAHA. Tapi kalau Ronnie James Dio cakap hello goodbye sekalipun je, pun tetap mulut aku dah terngangah la jugak haha.
Dilema kan kalau tengok line up contoh macam gitar/bass Toni Iommi/Geezer Butler cam gini, tak tahu nak diri kiri ke diri kanan.


Lagi satu...tarikh berdekatan, hari ni dalam sejarah.. ni benda ni.
aku suka kan tengok2 jersey team bola club dan negara merata dunia, aku suka baca tempat2 lain, so aku taruk la peta negara2 ni...
Biar betik, ada negara aku tak pernah dengar pun siot....

Aku rip kat mp3 player aku dream evil, magica dan dua2 live recordings untuk tour dua2 albums ni..

Dream Evil is my favourite Dio album. I think its the best Dio studio album ever. Maybe Last In Line is second. In fact Lock Up The Wolves, Kiling The Dragon, even Magica is great too. Yes yes, I know even Sacred Heart bla bla bla bla etc et.
Holy Diver? Well.... for me Holy Diver album is fantastic, unfortunately, some other Dio albums have so much more awesome songs.



I was wondering if in fact Jimmy Bain would say what he say about Ronnie James Dio if Dio was alive still. Vivian Campbell, I guess got a long personal history with Dio so I think people wont be surprised about his statements so much anymore.
Anyway, when people is dead, they cannot answer any accusations or bad things said about them.

In fact as a fan, I am really want to know about the Norwegians + Rowan Robertson Lock Up The Wolves era band. This is what I am searching for.
And of course we already have Dio Disciples.
But the Vivian Campbell band would be definitely interesting to hear once its live.

I really hope Dream Evil will come out with a deluxe packaging that had been released just like the first three Dio albums with Vivian Campbell. I hope it has the full lyrics too.
Easily has some of the best Dio songs that not many people know I guess like Sunset Superman, Naked In The Rain and the super duper awesomeness Faces In The Window ( We are evil and devine, the creation of the mind ). Rest of the songs are very nice too, Night People, All The Fools Sailed Away, even Overlove and When A Woman Cries etc etc. I was wondering even I Could Have Been A Dreamer was not played live even if its a single and the lyrics is printed on Hit Parader.



As a school boy, I was literally thinking Naked In The Rain, is like being really naked in the rain :-)

An example of a live show of that era is on this nice Tokyo Japan show on 4th October 1987. They even played STARS. Naked wooo In The Rain woooo, plus all the great songs from this era and with lots of intricate and unusual live twist and turns of songs we all know so well from Ronnie era Rainbow, Black Sabbath and Dio period itself.


Now Magica,

Nice packaging of the first release because it comes with the story itself, which is read for about 18 minutes by Ronnie Dio himself.
Now the songs, Fever Dream is like very nice, Turn To Stone and Feed My Head is awesome but the one song that is the for me one of the best songs by Ronnie Dio ever - As Long As Its Not About Love, so beautiful song and sad, as beautiful and sad as Rainbow Eyes.



The live example of this album is another Japanese show but in Osaka 22nd June 2000.
Check out the songs played. As Long As Its Not About Love is actually played live, and look out!! One Night In The City is there too. Next time I overdose on Dio, with Last In Line, then I will heap praises on this song haha.



I really wish I had seen Ronnie live with his own band too, so I can see him with Rainbow and Dio songs. But nevermind, like I say, seeing/hearing Ronnie singing live with Black Sabbath or Heaven and Hell or whatever you want to call it is unforgettable.
Fuck, I got to search back for the recording of that show that night, Falling On The Edge Of World is my favourite live moment then and I still remember it well.

masalah kesihatan tinnitus & Black Sabbath 12th December 1995 Forbidden Tour gig

This Two Things in the title are related for me.
dari wikipedia, Tinnitus is the perception of sound within the human ear in the absence of corresponding external sound.


Jadi tu hari ada internet news bilang satu orang ni bunuh diri pasal dia dah tak tahan lepas dia kena tinnitus lepas tengok band John Paul Jones/Dave Grohl nama Them Crooked Vultures ke hapa tu.
Betul kot berita ni, anyway, dah masuk tv dulu, ada satu apek local, lalui pembedahan untuk pekakkan telinga dia seluruhnya, pasal dah tak boleh buat apa. Apek tu sanggup untuk jadi pekak selamanya dari menanggung gangguan tinnitus ni.
Korang pun, sama ada pasal muzik atau kerja ( dan aku kadang2 tengok pekerja2 India/Bangla/China/Indon ) yang buat drill work/cutting work/ tak pakai hearing aid, aku pun sedih sangat pasal dorang takde sapa nak enforce, pasal memang kadang2 dorang ni ada yang memang ungkal.
ok lagi sekali, korang pun ada mesti pernah lalui pengalaman tinnitus atau yang serupa ngan ni dalam hidup korang kan?
Ni experience aku... ( switch omputeh lak ).

So, there I was , in my younger days ( aceh ceh ceh )..back in 12th December 1995, at World Trade Center Harbour Pavillion ( yes, those days when we mentioned Pavillion its at harbour front, nowadays Pavillion is synonym with Expo MRT station, where some of the bands that you all go and enjoy was Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force ( when first time they come )where Dougie White, another Rainbow alumni bluff the audience that they are doing a live recording, and make all of us to sing I AM A VIKING as loud as humanly possible haha, and of course Slayer!Slayer!Slayer!Slayer!Slayer!Slayer!Slayer!Slayer!Slayer!Slayer!Slayer!Slayer!Slayer!Slayer! which I think is the band that makes me so most exhausted just seeing them play live. If anyone havent see Slayer, go the next time come, or you go to Soundwave nearby to see them on the bill,.. its like an experience.

And there is also the gossipy article of Metallica being accused of putting Theraphy? between them in Donington many years ago just because of worrying the audience is tired haha. Even in heavy rock music, you can find lots of gossip.
But I think not true, Iron Maiden have Slayer to open their London dates in 2000/2001 so I think its just gossip, or its really true. I mean, Lulu is not a gossip, Lulu is true hahahaha.

Anyway back to the topic of this blog,
It was Black Sabbath.. not fronted by Ozzy, not Ronnie James Dio, not Ian Gillan, but Toni Martin from the Forbidden/Headless Cross/Tyr period.
I was somewhere at front, directly facing and lower a bit than those huge monster speakers.
It was impressive and unforgettable, whenever Toni Iommi come to the side I was standing with his Children of The Grave riffs etc, with Bobby Rondinelli a Rainbow alumni, ( Cozy Powell just left before the Asian tour ), so its sad that I never get to see the late great Cozy Powell ( another Rainbow alumni ) in action live even once. The rest of the band are some musicians with names we often read in those hard rock magazines and cassette inlets at that time - Neil Murray/Geof Nichols.

Its like yesterday, I was like in awe when Toni Iommi I remember was playing this little keyboards set up for him quickly on stage for the song Changes.
I think, that was the time that teach me, whenever I go see a band play especially those western bands, which until now makes me aware and look for out whats happening and what could happen next when a band stops playing a while or the lights on stage all blacked out, a good example is the Maiden's final frontier gig in Singapore when I had avoid hard rock music internet websites for a few days just so I wont know what is the setlist in Moscow, and when they stop a while and an accoustic guitar was being set up for Janick, it really interest me cause I got to feel excited and amuse and my brains try to work out about whats coming up next. Similar to the 2008 Perth show which was was also the 2nd date and I had restraint myself from sufing the internet so I wont know what is the Mumbai setlist, and an accoustic guitar suddenly was set up at Dave Murray's area.

ok, back to the that day..And they still had Paranoid ending with the Heaven And Hell loop , if you get what I mean.
And speaking of Paranoid, there very near me, was a handsome man, enjoying himself during that song, with his circle of friends/bodyguards?? who really looks like Amy Search, I never go up to him and talk la, but its him la, sorry for me, rock stars are rock stars when they come on stage, but if I see them off stage, at the shopping malls, or even selling vegetables ( and we know one of the greatest drummers jual sayur satu masa dahulu and as a kid I buy kelapa parut or whatever I forget from him ), they are just normal people who I guess wants to be left alone, and for me I have no heran if I dont take photo or shake hands with them, because I have love their music since I was young and always look up to them, when they are on stage - they are my heroes since young and now as a much older person as I like to see these bands live thru the years. Anyway, They ( I mean this Amy Search looking person and his friends/bodyguards?? all come very late after the show starts, I still remember, like it was yesterday.. There are some shows which are unforgettable, and basically this is one of them. Toni Iommi got this aura and if you are near to the front its magical if he comes to stand near front of you.

So lets hope, Black Sabbath with the original classic line up comes to Kuala Lumpur or Singapore in 2012 or beyond if they or me are still alive haha.. ( ok ok joke macam sial, I know ).
-We already got Forbidden line up ( excluding Cozy Powell, sigh ),
-we already got the late Ronnie James Dio/Geezer Butler/Vinnie Appice lineup under the Heaven and Hell moniker,
so lets hope for the Ozzy/Bill Wards line up, as this two persons is left for me to see. Ian Gillan - I never seen him with Sabbath but love the Sabbath bootlegs of his era, but with Purple I had seen Gillan, 4? 5? times. so its ok la. So is Glen Hughes, got one bootleg of him fronting Sabbath from Hammersmith that is so awesome sounding.

And I most love the intro of the Ozzy " live and loud " cd with Zakk Wylde, that very last song or something where Ozzy introduce the band as " Mr Toni Iommi, Mr Geezer Butler, Mr Bill Wards, Ozzy Osbourne, we got black sabbath back man! ".

ok, back to the tinnitus thingy
After the show, I was like lepaking outside and there is this horrible horrible undescribable sound in my ears which I dont know whether its tinnitus, or tin-tintinus, or asterixtus or obelixtus, I dont ever want to go thru it again..
The sound follows me for like till the next day.. It really is bothersome rabak punye.
Its so scary because I was like, ok, its one thing to go deaf, but for the sound to follow you...
That is why this man's suicide is horrible... Maybe there are medical ways to help, but it makes some people go crazy, or decide to completely medically go deaf just to make this thing go away, or worse case like this rock fan, kill himself.

So like Phua Chu Kang says before he kena sent for Speak Proper English Class by the gomen ( Government ) as students are answering exam scripts based on his character on tv - " dont pray pray ".

Brief introduction, dekni 4 orang ni ialah anggota Black Sabbath dari 1980-1982 ( lepas tu break up pasal RJD kena tuduh ubah mixing sound untuk Live Evil ke hapa ntah malam2 kat studio lepas tu RJD bawak VA form up DIO dan Black Sabbath terus jadi musical chair ) dan lepas tu dorang 4 ni buat lagi satu album/tour tahun 1992 around there ( lepas tu kecoh pasal Ozzy jemput dorang for dia nye solo farewell gig tapi RJD tak mau join so last minit kena panggil Rob Halford ( Judas Priest ) and abis la dorang 4 tu jam. Anyway, last year gitu all of them got back together again,( mula its suppose to be Bill Wards tapi dia terpeleot so VA masuk balik ) dan buat tour perform lagu2 cuma dari 3 album dorang sama2 buat

Bila dorang reunion last year, dorang tak pakai moniker Black Sabbath pasal nanti takut orang terconfuse ingat Ozzy Osbourne jadi vokalis for this reunion and tour. Tak silap aku copyright Black Sabbath si Toni Iommi yang pegang, so bukan pasal copyright cuma tak mau confusion. Jadi dorang gunakan moniker Heaven And Hell, pasal ni famous song dan judul album dorang, tapi serious bebual, dorang can name themselves " my grandfather clock " ke, " humpty dumpty " ke, "zombie kampung pisang" ke dan fans macam aku mesti pegi support nye.
Serious bebual pun , kalo aku dengar lagu era Ozzy, aku suka pasang Live Evil/Live Hammersmith nye albums pasal Dio yang nyanyi balik. Iron Man, War Pigs, Children Of The Grave..smua suara Dio lagi baik dan sesuai pada aku. ok enough crap so gi review-

So, penat siak, semalamnye Megadeth, balik tido kejap gi keja pagi, then terus gi Heaven And Hell lak.
So aku ni kali ngan 'mybetterhalf' lagi star karat dari semalamnye nengok Megadeth. Nak kul 7.45 baru keluar rumah, sampai Fort Canning naik mrt ngan panjat bukit tu dah nak kat 8.45 sampai. Yahoo belum start.
Sampai je, ramai nye orang, tapi mesti bleh selitnye kan, so mbh aku lepak kat Legends nye step ( cam dah jadi port dia lak ) aku tinggalkan md aku, so ingat nak gi depan nak snap gambo satu dua, tapi..


stage set, cool fencing decoration, very stylo mylo. Backdrop very simple ada cam window gitu dan batu2 besar gitu zaman dulu tapi 1st few songs ada artwork Heaven And Hell yang pompuan tiga orang ada kepak hisap rokok tu tapi lepas tu takde dah...

...oh my, tarikan dia kuat la, wa terus selit and selit, abis tu, korang nengok ah, setlist dia one after another are the soundtrack of my childhood years, lagu2 yang aku membesar..and its Ronnie James Dio. The \m/ guy. The man on the silver mountain, the one who believe he can Catch The Rainbow, The Rainbow In The Dark, the Sunset Superman, waktu aku ngah dari darjah dua gitu aku 1st time dengar band Rainbow dari pelajar2 budak2 besar bawak tape rekoder dalam beg grandsport,sampai aku dah tua ni hahaha, dah berapa tahun eh dengar suara dia nyanyi? nak 27 tahun dah ..I love you Ronnie James Dio!!! Wooo so aku pun enjoy myself la kat in front. Soak in the feeling. Seeing one of the singers and bands that means so much to me haha.

Ok in detail ah one by one...

Start lepas intro E5150, ok dulu untuk budak2 kampung batak, budak2 kaki bukit, budak2 kampung melayu jalan eunos, bas 51 abis kat atas, bas 50 abis kat bawah lepas dorang split kat original masjid alkaff nye simpang tiga tu. Tapi E5150 ni kalo betul la eh, ada orang cakap la kalo guna numbering arab -
E = E, 5 = V , 1 = I , 50 = L
Jadi dapat EVIL hohoho...
ntah betul ntah tidak la. Kalo korang carik design DIO zaman Dream Evil misalnye, yang ada api tu, tu clear cut terbalikkan korang nengok dapat apa. Abis Ronnie James Dio bila kena tanya kat satu interview dia cakap coincidence hehe.



Then terus " THE MOB RULES!! " Surprise!!! ah ni baru gerek, kat Amerika dorang opener lagu After All. Slow ah lagu tu. Ni ah, start terus dah fast game!!
If you listen to fools!! The mob rules!! ewah...wa pun terikut join in hahaha. Cam budak2 balik..

" This is the very very 1st song we wrote together " yahoo!!! Sua terang mesti la tak lain tak bukan Children Of The Sea. A very beautiful ballad. Aku suka siak lagu ni wa sengih cam nangka busuk...happy giler!!.. Gerrek siak, then aku realise, Oh My!! The sound is so awesome, it cant be that perfect!! compared to Megadeth, takde fight la. Also, the crowd reaction is awesome, lagi happening dari Megadeth..

Then kan korang, terus lagu " I ". Heavy giler siak lagu ni tu malam. Geezer Butler amboi, heavy ah dekni, tapi aku sebelah kawasan Tony Iommi hehe. Serious bebual, ni aku ngah dengar yang aku rekod, bulu roma ternaik. Toni Iommi very cool siak. Dorang ni dah usia lanjut tapi nampak hensem, nampak slim, nampak smart, nampak healthy, jeles siak aku. Pakai make up ngan ada stylist dan dresser kot. Tapi still dorang nampak very healthy.

Cannot be this good this show aku cakap, first 3 songs dah power giler, I was thinking to myself, mesti lepas ni mesti konpem slack, takkan bleh maintain power sey all the way. But I was wrong..

So aku cakap, ok lepas ni aku nak balik belakang teman mbh, sekali tu ah kau RJD sua introduce next song as " songs about the stars " , apa lagi ni sua terang " The Sign Of The Southern Cross " abis la cammana aku nak gi belakang kan, ni another song aku grow up with. Lagu yang sangat slow, sangat melodic, suara penyanyi sangat merdu, tapi heavy!!!!!! oppsss kena emphasise HEAVY!!

Aku nengok tau sekeliling, nengok reaksi fans, ramai ah orang melayu, mesti cam aku dorang ni semua, grow up zaman muzik is at its most beautiful.
Vinnie Appice ( korang kalo tak tahu, selain Black Sabbath early 80s, dekni majoriti album2 DIO, dia drummer ler ), mbh pun cakap dia best, memang best..nanti ceta lagi pasal si drummer ni.
Before I forget, this song is played in its full version ok, takde sekerat2 nye ok. Full version siap nasik tambah , 8 minutes 20 second beb. Gerek!

Then aku nak gi belakang, RJD cakap the next song is about "magic and dolls" abis la aku tak jadi gi belakang lagi.. Lagu VOODOO!! oooo I love this scary song, korang tahu part tengah tu yang " if you are on the lonely highway tu " , dulu aku kecik2 dengar lagu ni takut siak hahaha. Tapi ni lagu aku kasi aku nak belajar pasal Afrikan culture haha. ok lagu ni pun dorang seret 8 minit lebih, power giler.



Lepas tu Vinnie Appice nye drum solo, hah!! best, exciting. Siap masuk lagu techno lagik, dia main style yang korang tahu yang pompuan Korea ketuk2 drum besar gitu. Ah gitu la dia main. Best best best.

Then intro Computer God. Guruh2 gitu sound dia, so aku pun gi belakang wakakakaka. Duduk. Then lepas lagu ni Dio cakap pasal lagu ni pasal "computers taking over the world, which they already have, look at your cell phones "

Next song, Falling Off The Edge Of The World. Sedih je.

Aku suka siak gambo ni aku snap, ntah eh, yang baju putih tu diri satu orang, he looks so alone, ngan ada bulan, ngan lagu slow melanchonic, ewah wa try pakai word baru ni kali k. Tak tahu spelling betul ke tak. Tapi serious bebual, I was right at the back, and this song has a very sad intro gitu. Wakakaka. Wa jiwang kejap siak... Betul sey, I was so damn happy last night, masa time lagu ni...then masa lagu ni speed up laju kat tengah aku gi beli air, mbh haus hoho, so aku take opportunity gi survey tshirt, mim alif hah alif lam, $40 satu tshirt!! forget it. Air mineral murah sikit- $2 je hahaha.

Lepas tu kan, so lagu apa ah? lagu apa ah!! YAHOOO!!! intro DIE YOUNG!!I love this beautiful song. And kalo semalam Dave Mustaine cakap Singapore " fuck this is a beautiful country " kan. RJD pun ni intro cakap " thanks for inviting us to your beautiful country, its really a wonderful place, we hope to return and see you all soon ".

Aku bukan patriotik la, dan aku dont give a damn about what people say or do, pasal aku cuma a man on the street nak hidup simple life, tapi kalo Dave Mustaine dan Ronnie James Dio , dua malam berturut2 cakap Singapore macam gitu, aku feel proud sikit je, when two of the most important people in the history of heavy rock and metal compliment something about Singapore. Anyway kalo any member of Iron Maiden puji Singapore cam gitu, siak, aku gantung bendera kat luar rumah ah hahaha.

Anyway back to the gig, hah kau!! We Live for Today, Tomorrow never comes!! Die Young Die Young... " ... ni aku masih ngah senyum ingat konsert ni siak...Senyum je aku.

So Dio then cakap " the next song is the title track of our 1st album, it says - The world is full of kings and queens who blind your eyes then steal your dreams!! its heaven and hell " ARGGGHH!!!! ntah dah berapa banyak buku teks sekolah, dan berapa banyak meja tulis kat sekolah aku dah vandalise ngan ayat ni masa time kecik2 dulu. Sorry teachers \m/

So tu jam, aku dah lost dalam crowd wakakaa..Selit mana dapat, skarang aku nak cam gini la gi konsert lain kali, lepak belakang then rempuh depan, lepak belakang lagi then selit depan, bleh tukar2 angle, dapat relak2, snap gambo, enjoy2 and soak the atmosphere.

Lagu ni dorang seret punye panjang....I wish this song never ends actually... Pasal, my childhood life pass before my eyes. Time happy, time aku sedih sorang2...
ni kira " tangkap " moment gitu la.
Lagu ni kena seret abis, slow motion gitu, really makes the crowd soak in the atmosphere, betul2 ah these four guys are the masters la. Godfathers la gitu. Audience semua cam captivated kat dorang sey. Dorang seret, tapi its so good siak, its bloody damn good. Kira betul2 SabbathBloodySabbath moment hoho.

Anyway, korang ni lagu kan RJD selalu buat improvisation baik zaman Black Sabbath, DIO nye zaman, atau sampai skarang...
So improvisation part " there a little white shape look down on me " tu takde beza cam most live albums yang korang dengar, tapi 1st time aku nengok sendiri, memang very dramatik macam opera gitu, pasal efek lampu tukar2 guna spotlight dan aksi RJD depan stage. Aku jauh so tak dapat snap this part. Maybe next time, just maybe, I will first to the barrier just like the old times hohoho just for Ronnie James Dio.

So actually kan, kumpulan Heaven And Hell, tak main banyak lagu tapi some songs dorang sudah buat extended version ngan solos , blues, RJD nasik tambah liriks, tapi just nice, about 90minits of highest quality.

So lepas tu tunggu encore, nanti cam aku tulis kat paling best moment kat bawah, aku surprise by the crowd nye cheering siak, dorang sua chant tu Heaven And Hell nye melody line..

So lepas tu mbh pun ikut gi depan, then soak the atmosphere for the last time, Neon Knights!! singalong, lupa aku ngah pegang plastik old chang kee wakaka.
Best best best, abis lak jumpa si Lauretta Alabbon nye clone hahaha.



paling best moment - At last aku dapat tengok Ronnie James Dio live sejak aku minat suara dan lagu2 dia nyanyi zaman Rainbow masa aku kecik2 dan nengok the best line up Black Sabbath ever pada aku. Dream come true. Hopefully got another time ek dan kalo lain kali dorang main lagu Country Girl. sigh. Aku suka giler lagu ni." fell in love with a country girl morning sunset " ewah.

paling tak rock moment - aku sambil nyanyi2 singalong happy2 lagu Neon Knights, terlupa aku ngah pegang plastik Old Chang Kee. Wakakakaka abis show kena tegur ngan abang J wakakaa. Ha ah siak, goyang2 lagu Neon Knight tapi tangan pegang Old Chang Kee nye plastik bag. Lagi aku snap gambo mesti ternaik2 plastik old chang kee wakakaka.

Last nye cakap eh, aku dah nengok
Black Sabbath ( Eternal Idol nye line up ), Dream Theater, Dragonforce, Yngwie J Malmsteen Rising Force, Toto, Megadeth, Slayer, Deep Purple, dan ntah apa lagi eh dah lupa yang datang kat Spore dan aku mampu pegi dari dulu, tapi ni show yang paling best so far.. dari sound, dari stage movement, dari persembahan ( each of the 4 are so very good , betul2 cam kita cakap " they are true professionals " ), dari entertainment, environment, lighting, atmosphere, weather, crowd behaviour, every song killer, wa dapat btleg sound yang kasi aku happy, mbh ada sama ngan aku, dari apa2 segi la, perfect. Hard to beat. Best international gig aku pernah nengok.

entah aku ngah occupy diri aku ngan bermacam2 aktiviti, tu la langsung tak fikir atau excited sangat pasal nak nengok Megadeth dan Heaven & Hell ( especially Ronnie James Dio ) hari jemaat dan sabtu ni.
tapi nari nye sokkabar, tiga color pages on these two bands, local reporters interview dorang. Kalo aku yang interview kan lagi best. Reporters ni semua tahu ke sapa dan pasal apa dorang interview? atau not all reporters tahu topik apa dorang interview? dorang interview pasal tu periuk nasik dorang. Kena buat. Bukan passion pasal Black Sabbath Dio Years, Megadeth atau certain individuals in these two bands.
